Blue sky thinking. The fresh water toilet…

Blue sky thinking. The fresh water toilet…

A secret of mine

I am going to share a secret with you that only a few people know. Here goes. Every time I see a sky-scraper, the exterior of the building melts away and I see the toilets on each and every floor.

A special molecule

So the other day I was at the kitchen sink filling a glass of water and across the airwaves of my consciousness came a reminder (not the first time) of just how amazing this pairing of hydrogen and oxygen is for life. Not far behind this amazement came all the factual stuff about water; it’s 75% of the Earth’s skin, 3/4 of our body chemistry and that our life desperately depends on fresh water for daily survival.

A connection…we are completely absurd

Seriously. Hear me out because I think I am on to something big, something that reveals a label for our age…you know like the Renaissance , the New Deal or Modernism. We have clearly adopted one of many absurd traditions. We take fresh water; drinking water, potable water, water safe enough to give to your baby and we use it as a mechanism to remove human waste! Fresh water + waste = Waste! Hmmmm….

We are in the Age of Awareness…yes that’s it Awareness. This is the period of human evolution where we have grown in population and power to the point where our actions truly have the opportunity to not just wound the Earth and ourselves but, well I’d rather not say. I am a hopeful guy so that’s why I am calling this the Age of Awareness not Famine.

A really great opportunity is upon us and inside of us and that is to finally let our awareness for the inner voice of reason speak some common sense. Let’s not continue on this path of using fresh drinking water to flush my waste away, let’s think of something more appropriate. The solution is possible. Is it costly? Yes. Are positive things costly. Yes, either in hard work or money but who cares, this is life we are talking about here.

If we can dream up the iPhone

Seven years ago I was walking up the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Everything I needed was on my back and this was probably one of two times in my life where my “foot print” was smallest (my bank account too). When masses of people co-habitate in dense spaces the good effects of civilization and the bad ones can grow exponentially. On my 2,170 mile journey up the AT on a 4ft wide 8ft high tunnel, life was so simple and peaceful and the “noise” of society was quiet enough to see some truth.

The truth is we have been domesticated to think a certain way and carry on habits of our “Fathers.” However, this is the Age of Awareness. A time to question and change those habits of our ancestors. We clearly have the thinking power if we can trick out the general public with “Dick Tracey” like technologies such as the iPhone or send humans out of Earth’s orbit. So now’s the time to add a few shakes of wit, love and awareness together and solve some of those tough basic problems we have inherited from our ancestors and risk passing onto our children. So let’s hear em’...

I have reinstated the “military” shower method…water on: rinse, water off: lather, water on: rinse. Saving water is actually pretty easy. I used to shower this way and then my awareness “slacked.”

I have a gray water system in the works so stay tuned!
